Review by Bec Townsend
If you were to ask women how to shape eyebrows the majority of answers would be waxing and/or plucking. But a new trend in taming unruly eyebrows is starting to emerge over recent years and it's popularity in Townsville is growing.
Eyebrow Threading is an ancient hair removal technique using a thin cotton thread - no time consuming tweezing, no burning hot wax, and no reaction to chemicals. Another benefit listed about threading is that it allows a more precise line and therefore gives more control when shaping the brow.
My first exposure to Eyebrow Threading was when my big-city-living little sister dragged our mum along to an appointment in a busy Brisbane shopping centre about 5 years ago. Mum came home raving it and I YouTube'd it, thought it looked interesting, but upon doing a quick half-hearted google search it appeared that Threading wasn't a readily available option in Townsville yet.
I continued to stick with the occasional waxing or plucking, but mostly I've gone the far easier (& painfree!) option of just letting them be slightly unruly and au-naturale!
Everynow and then I'd do a half-hearted search for a threading artist in Townsville and finally the questions that were starting to pop up in Facebook groups "Is Eyebrow Threading available in Townsville?" began to be answered with "Yes". And then one morning while doing the walk around of Willows Markets I found a threading artist with a regular weekly stall set up and after weeks of putting it off, I finally sat in her chair.
Now as most of us modern women know, when having our brows waxed it's accompanied by pain (I'm a sook!) and often redness that lasts for a few hours and skin irritation is common as well.
With threading it all seemed much gentler. There was a tiny amount of pain which was more of a slight discomfort than a "OMG my skin has just been ripped off" kind of pain, there was no irritation and any redness was minimal and was gone within no time at all. The threading artist was quick and professional, and although the tweezers did make an appearance I didn't leave feeling like I'd lost half an eyebrow.
Here's my before and after photos. The after photo was taken immediately after and even though slightly blurred, you can see that there is no angry redness that sometimes comes after waxing.
Eyebrow threading lasts for up to 4-6 weeks, uses no chemicals or hot wax, and can be applied to all areas of the face. After now trying it for myself, I am convinced that this is definitely the way to go for me!
