I know, I know, corny title! But seriously, Chipmunks Playland is pretty awesome!
I took my 19 month old for the first time and he had so much fun. Oh who am I kidding, I had fun too! Perhaps it was because I left Miss 3.5 at home with Daddy because she’d been too naughty… or perhaps it was just because it’s a really great place to go!
When we walked through the doors we were met by happy, friendly staff and a colourful hive of activity. The School day special entry fee of $9.90 for 1-11 year olds was very reasonable and I was able to pay with eftpos. Adults and children under 1 get free entry at all times. Socks are required for using the equipment and are available to purchase if you forget. After paying we were stamped with a matching number, which was checked on the way out, and let through the gates to begin our adventure.
The building has three distinct play areas for different age groups, separated by tables and chairs. There is a fenced under 1s area towards the front corner of the building, a fenced 1-5 year old area down one side and a 5-11 year olds area along the other side. We only used the 1-5 year old area, so I can’t really give much feedback on the other areas as yet.
My little guy absolutely loved the Charlie Chipmunk ride! It’s a giant inflated chipmunk that constantly spins around and kids can sit on it at their leisure. It’s inside the 1-5 area so there’s no need to leave other play activities to line up to wait for a turn. When I could convince him to hop off the ride, he loved going in the ball pit. It’s enclosed with mesh-type fabric so the balls (mostly) stay inside. We also had a bit of a climb through the levels of the playground and dodged swinging soft beams and crawled trough tunnels.
After all that exploring we tried out the café. The menu is not huge but it has a suitable variety of competitively priced items on offer. From burgers and salads to nuggets and chips, it wasn’t hard to find something to eat. They also have a selection of delicious looking cakes on display. Having the Cherry Ripe Cheesecake was the best decision I made that day! Café purchases can be made with eftpos, but there is also an ATM inside the building if you prefer cash.
When I’ve mentioned Chipmunks to friends they’ve either not known what it was or not realised it has opened, so I wasn’t expecting it to be packed full of people. It definitely wasn’t crowded, but it was far from quiet and I’m sure it will only get busier as word gets around. The playland is open 7 days a week and has 2 rooms available for birthday parties. Located on Woodman Court (near Joyce Mayne, opposite Castletown) it’s easy to get to and stress-free finding a car park.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a few hours, especially now the weather is heating up, I definitely recommend checking out Chipmunks. We already have 2 more play dates planned to go there and I’m positive there will be many more to come!
